House. Act to incorporate the Proprietors of the Augusta Free Bridge Company, 1857
Thirty-sixth Legislature. House. No. 38. An Act to incorporate the proprietors of the Augusta Free Bridge Company, 1857. Seven men were
incorporated as above. They would first offer to buy the existing bridge, but if the owners would not sell, the company should build its own. It could acquire
capital by selling up to 6,000 shares at $6.00 each. It could charge a toll until it had paid for the bridge and built up $15,000 as a maintenance
fund. After that, the bridge would be free. The company had five years to build its bridge. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally
held by the Library of Congress).
