March 11, 1845 Report of the Committee on Education regarding the governor's message concerning common schools. The committee reviewed the status of
Maine's school system, as well as other states, and concluded that a board of education would be beneficial to correcting various problems in the
common schools. Included was a proposed act to establish a board of commissioner of common schools. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles
