Wheeling, 1849, Eoff & Co. Remonstrance against Wheeling petition
|
|
1849 Remonstrance of the John Q. Eoff & Company of Wheeling (which was part of Virginia until 1863), against a prior petition submitted to the General Assembly. That petition sought, on behalf of "citizens, merchants, and manufacturers", an increase in tax on a broker's license. Eoff & Co. was the only brokers licensed in that city and county and sought to defend its position against the "moneyed institutions." (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
