November 1858 Memorial from D. L Swain and Francis L. Hawks seeking appropriations from the General Assembly to publish both the Documentary History
of North Carolina and its Statutes at Large. Regarding the former, the petitioners supported the need for this chronologically arranged series from
the archives as a method to protect fragile material and to provide the story of the state's ancestors for posterity. (Digitized from a microfilm
copy of titles originally held by the University of North Carolina Library at Chapel Hill).
