House. Comm. on Federal Relations. Report, 1832?
|
|
1832? Revised report, as well as Mr. Marshall's substitute and Mr. McDowell's amendment, of the House Committee on Federal Relations. These reports discussed the secession threats by South Carolina and responding proclamation by President Andrew Jackson. A series of resolutions acknowledged states' rights, while also declaring loyalty to the Union, while also requesting that the federal government retract the tariffs. Of note, the committee resolved to send two commissioners to South Carolina to dissuade the state from abandoning the union. See LLMC #22889, 22893 and 22894 for related documents. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
