Description and Holding Information
1736-37, Hanmer / Johnston dispute correspondence (MS)
Two manuscript letters from 1736 and 1737 regarding Daniel Hanmer's complaint against Gov. Johnston, and the governor's response to that petition.
It appeared that Hanmer wished to have a position of Surveyor-General of his Majesty's Customs for the Southern District. Although the petitioner
wanted the General Assembly to decide, the governor solely wished to decide. The documents have significant faded portions. (Digitized from a microfilm
copy of title originally held by the South Carolina Historical Society Library).
