Description and Holding Information
1832-33, Convention journal. 1833
Journal of the Convention of the People of South Carolina, assembled at Columbia on the November 19, 1832 and again on March 11, 1833. The first
session ended with an ordinance which nullified the Tariff Acts of 1828 and 1832 for the collection of duties on the importation of foreign commodities,
and provided a threat of secession if the federal government sought to impose its will. This second session, beginning on page 82, ultimately
repealed this ordinance, following a compromise bill on tariffs. However, in a show of defiance, this convention nullified the Force Bill which would have
sent federal troops to South Carolina to collect the tariffs. See LLMC #21125-31 for related documents. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
originally held by the Library of Congress).
