|
|
1775-1776 Extracts from the Journals of the Provincial Congress of South Carolina. Of note, the members' first order of business, after selecting a president of the Congress, was to discuss the American Bill of Rights as recommended by the Continental Congress. In the second volume, the Provincial Congress ordered the infamous Captain William (Bloody Bill) Cunningham into custody for crimes against South Carolina. (However, Cunningham led British troops in a series of bloody massacres in South Carolina's back country in the fall of 1781). The third volume contained the Constitution of South Carolina (beginning on p.136 ) which was approved on March 26, 1776. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
