1842-02-12, Report from the Massachusetts Humane Society concerning life-boats
House No. 27 In mid-February, 1842, the Humane Society sent reports on lifeboats to the Commonwealth Secretary, who forwarded them to the
Governor, who in turn sent them to the Legislature. In 1840 and 1841, appropriations were made to build lifeboats for the most exposed parts of the Coast.
The two reports listed the locations and costs of the lifeboats. There were sixteen boats and twenty-eight lives had been saved. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
