Senate No. 67 A petition from thirteen men, citizens of Massachusetts. The laws in several states deprive Massachusetts citizens of their rights.
The men offered examples of indignities suffered by free citizens of color and sent the text of a Georgia law offering a reward for the capture and
delivery of a Massachusetts newspaper editor. The petitioners asked the Legislature to protest the restrictive laws. (Digitized from a microfilm copy

This petition of the undersigned, citizens of Massachusetts, respectfully represents, that there are certain laws in several of the states of this confederacy, which operate to deprive a portion of our fellow citizens of this Commonwealth, of the privileges and rights guarantied to them by our federal constitutions--nay more, which subject them to, heavy losses, cruel treatment, and even to the deprivation of their liberty for life--in direct violation of the avowed purposes, of our Union ... / George Odiorne, Benjamin V.
