Reports of Boston & Lowell, Boston & Providence and Boston & Worcester Railroads, 1834
Senate No. 26 Reports of the Boston & Lowell, Boston & Providence, and Boston & Worcester Rail Road Corporations. Boston : Dutton & Wentworth, 1834.
The Committee on Rail Roads and Canals saw no need for legislation, but asked the reports be printed for general information. Third annual report
of the Directors of the Boston & Lowell Rail Road Corporation, January 9, 1834. The grading had been completed except at each end. Some track had
been laid and all but one bridge completed. The Directors estimated it would cost $800,000 to get everything done, so they needed to be allowed to raise
more capital and to extend the time allowed. Second annual report of the Directors of the Boston to Providence Rail Road Corporation, January 11,
1834. Locating the line had been completed and paperwork filed. About half the length of the road had been graded and about 1 1/2 miles of track had
been laid. The rails were coming from England. The Directors will not double track until necessary. Second annual report of the Directors of the
Boston & Worcester Rail Road Corporation. Thirteen miles had been completed, but the rails from England had been delayed, so graded track was sitting
empty until the rails arrived. Preliminary work of all types was being done on the remaining seventeen miles. There was a lot of activity at the Boston
end of the line, moving streets and building stations and warehouses. Many bridges had been constructed in many places on the line. Two locomotives
were in hand, with another nearing completion. Passenger, baggage, and freight cars were being built in New York and Baltimore because the local
companies were too busy. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
