May 8, 1777 act from the General Assembly in Connecticut to raise and fulfill the necessary quotas for the soldiers in the Continental Army. Of note
there is a provision allowing men to avoid the draft by "procur[ing] an able-bodied soldier" in his stead. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
