June 6, 1758 Broadside from Gov. Thomas Fitch of Connecticut exhorting the soldiers getting ready to go to war in Canada to abstain from impious
behavior. Included in the list were intemperance, immoral and desolate practices and failure to worship God. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title

To the forces, raised by the colony aforesaid, and generously engaged in the expedition against Canada : ... I ... earnestly exhort, all of you ... to abstain from and avoid all profane swearing, cursing, and other evil speaking ...
