1735-03-10, Proclamation of G. Clarke as Gov. of New York
The March 10, 1735 proclamation of George Clarke which appointed him the new governor of New York Province, following the death of William Cosby. Of
note, there was a political fight between Loyalist Gov. Cosby, and after his death, George Clarke, and liberal Rip Van Dam. Both Clarke and Van Dam
claimed the governorship (ultimately Clarke was endorsed in London) (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the New York Public
Library).
