1835, Amendment to the Constitution adopted by the General Court

House No. 1 Amendment of the Constitution adopted by the General Court, 1835. Resolve providing for an amendment of the Constitution, 1835. Both
houses had voted in favor of this. A census of ratable polls was to be taken in May, 1837 and every ten years thereafter. 300 polls equaled one
representative, with 450 additional voters yielding one more representative. The rights of larger and smaller towns were defined. In the summer of 1837,
and every tenth year thereafter, the Governor and the Council were to look at the numbers and announce the number of representatives to be elected.
There was a table of towns, using 1832 numbers, that showed the status quo and how the amendment would change things. (Digitized from a microfilm
