1697-05-31, Barring export of grain
Two copies of a May 31, 1697 Broadside issued by Gov. Benjamin Fletcher. Due to a bread shortage in New York City, his proclamation prohibits the
export of of grain, including wheat, corn and coarse meal, as well as bread, from the New York Province until November 1st. The only exception would be
to allow sufficient bread and grain for mariners and passengers leaving the New York port. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held
