1709-06, Act for laying an excise on all liquors
|
|
June 1709 Act issued by the New York lieutenant governor, council and General Assembly that established an excise tax on all liquors retailed in the New York colony. The act established the process for collections, penalties for not so doing, and a limitation on what the money could be used for by the colony. In addition there was a ban on, and penalty for, selling any liquors to Indian and Negro slaves.
