Coleccion de causas celebres contemporaneas, civiles y criminales: by Manuel Atanasio Fuentes (1820-89), 1370+(1) p., Paris : Libreria de Rosa y Bouret, 1861. (Subjects: Famous criminal trials in Peru, France, Haiti, Great Britain, and the U.S.. A table of contents appears following p. 370. The Haiti trial narrative, pp. 88-110, is entitled: “Foro de haiti; Causa criminal seguida contra el General Guerrier Prophete por asesinato y tentative de revolucion, 1859.” It covers a formal inquiry into the assassination in 1859 of the daughter of President Fabre Geffrard, Madame Cora Manneville-Blanfort, by Timoleon Sanon. Sanon was allied with an insurrection against Geffrard led by Prophete, who was a minister of the predecessor that Geffrard overthrew, Faustin Soulouque, a.k.a. Emperor Faustin 1. The purpose of the trial was to fix primary responsibility for the assassination on Prophete himself. All of the text is in Spanish.)
