1971). Approximately 1160 p., variously paginated. Contents include studies arranged in four parts: I, Military Personnel Requirements; II, Supply of
Personnel to the Military; III, Historical, Political and Social Research; and IV, Other Issues. Vol. 1 includes a Statement by the President Announcing
the Creation of the Commission (March 27, 1969); lists of Commission members and staff; an introduction by Executive Director William H. Meckling;
and Parts I and II. Vol. 2 includes Parts III and IV. Studies include narrative discussion, statistical tables, appendixes and bibliographies. (The
Commission was known as the “Gates Commission”; the Chairman was Thomas Gates, former Secretary of Defense.)
