Description and Holding Information
1864, Compiled laws
Consisting of the acts of the Leeward Islands in force in Antigua, and the acts of Antigua, from 20 Car. 2, 1668, to 28 Vict., 1864; With table of
acts, index of subject matter, and alphabetical index: by authority, comp. under the supervision of Sir William Snagg, (Chief Justice and Commissioner),
xxxi+859p, London, Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1865. (According to Commercial Laws of the World, GT # 55, p. 11, at Vol. 17, p. 1086, this was the only
“official revision” prior to the 1920 “New Edition” below. From 1668 to 1865 the statutes of Antigua were assigned numbers in a numerical series as of
their date of passage. By the end of 1864 this series extended to Statute No. 1262. In this revision, where all superseded and repealed statutes have
been omitted, the surviving acts are listed in strict chronological order by date of passage, and have been renumbered in a series running from 1 to 230.
A table appearing on pp. iv thru xxxi provides a concordance between the old and new number series. These dual numbering systems should be kept in
mind when reading citations before or after the 1865 publication date.)
