1879, Treaty of Friendship U.K. & Samoa
Treaty of Friendship, &c. between Her Majesty and the King and Government (Malo) of Samoa, 3p., London: Printed by Harrison and Sons, 1881.
(Presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty, 1881. A "command" document in the series for Samoa, no. 1 (1881). Treaty was signed at Apia,
August 28, 1879. In double columns in English and Samoan. In addition to the general terms of friendship common to such treaties, Great Britain
secured the right to try British citizens by the High Commissioner for the Western Pacific rather than subject them to Samoan law. This treaty comes quick
on the heels of one in which the U.S. secured access to the port at Pago-Pago as a coaling station by a treaty of January 17, 1878)
