1930, Official Policy in Reaction to Shaw Rpt.
in the United Kingdom: Cmd 3692, 23p, London, HMSO, 1930. (The report of the commission on the Palestinian disturbances of August, 1929, chaired by
Sir Walter Shaw {see two entries above} created acute controversy and a measure of public uncertainty as to the official policy of the British
Government in Palestine, in particular with regard to Jewish immigration from Europe and elsewhere. In response the Colonial Office sent Sir John Hope
Simmpson on a separate mission to confer with the High Commissioner and to report on various matters relating to the sustainability of the immigrant stream.
Sir John’s report {see preceding entry} having been received, this official statement of policy was intended to signal at least a slowdown in the
number of Jewish refugees who would be allowed to immigrate into Palestine in the near future.)
