1930, Report of Comm. Re: Rights
appointed by His Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with the approval of the Council of the League of
Nations, to determine the rights and claims of Moslems and Jews in connection with the Western or Wailing Wall at Jerusalem, December, 1930: 75p + 3
maps., London, HMSO, 1931. (In colonial Palestine, as now, rights of access to the Wailing Wall constituted a major source of friction between the
Moslem and Arabic communities in Jerusalem. This “Wailing Wall Commission” was made up of international representatives and was appointed by the Council
of the League of Nations at the behest of the United Kingdom, which in turn had been led to seek the commission by a recommendation of the British
commission {see preceding entry} which was investigating the disturbances of 1929. Members of the International Commission for the Wailing Wall were Eliel
Lofgren, former Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, chairman; Charles Barde, Vice-President of the Court of Justice at Geneva; and C.J. van Kempen,
a distinguished Dutch statesman.)
