1937, UK, Royal Comm. Rpt.
Cmd 5479, xii+404p + 9 maps, London, HMSO, 1937. (The Commission, appointed on 7 August 1936, and chaired by William Robert Wellesley, Earl Peel,
submitted its report on 22 June 1937. It was submitted to Parliament in July 1937. The Commission’s mandate was to ascertain the causes of the persistent
disturbances in Palestine; to inquire into the manner in which the mandate for Palestine was being implemented and whether either the Arab or Jewish
populations had a legitimate grievance as to the implementation; and, if such grievances were legitimate, to recommend actions for their removal and
the prevention of their recurrence. The Commission concluded that, despite official British policy and encouragement in the preceding fifteen years,
the Moslem and Jewish communities in Palestine had not resolved their differences; which had now become irreconcilable. In consequence the Royal
Commission recommended partition of the territory.)
