|
|
The additional rules and orders of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William in Bengal, to take effect from the 22d October, 1841: n.a., (1)+4-10p, Calcutta, G.H. Huttmann, Bengal Mily, Orphan Press, 1841. (Lacks TOC & index. The Court of Judicature in Bengal was established in 1774, when the Mayor’s Court for Calcutta was converted into a Supreme Court under authority of 3 Geo. III, ch. 63. In the period covered by the present rules, the Supreme Court held jurisdiction only over Europeans, with native citizens being subject to the Native Courts in civil matters. The Indian High Court Act, 1861 abolished both the European Supreme Courts and the Native Courts, replacing both with a High Court system with universal jurisdiction. The print text of this title was scanned from Lincoln’s Inn Library pamphlet volume MP 40.)
