Mayor’s Court for Calcutta was converted into a Supreme Court under authority of 3 Geo. III, ch. 63. In the period covered by the present rules, the
Supreme Court held jurisdiction only over Europeans, with native citizens being subject to the Native Courts in civil matters. The Indian High Court
Act, 1861 abolished both the European Supreme Courts and the Native Courts, replacing both with a High Court system with universal jurisdiction. The
