Description and Holding Information
Avis divers et petites affiches americaines, 1764-65
Avis divers et petites affiches américaines: weekly, 29 Aug. 1764 to 25 Dec. 1765, Au Cap, Imp. Royale, 1764, all published. (This periodical,
published in Saint Domingue, provides valuable historical background for what was at the time by far France’s most important colony. It’s scope is general,
covering details of administration, culture, law, ship arrivals, notices of slave sales, trade statistics, etc. In common with its predecessor title,
Gazette de S. Dominque {Feb.-Aug., 1764 } and its successor, Les affiches americaines {1766-91}, it had recurring features such as a regular column
covering deaths in the colony and another column covering négres marons or escaped slaves. LLMC’s holdings of this title are limited to the premier
issue, 29 Aug. 1764. Assistance in locating additional portions of this title would be much appreciated.)
