1798, Loix organique pour St. Domingue, Toussaint L., ms. Copy. 6p
…loix organiques pour St. Domingue…: ms., 6p, (1798). (This forerunner to Louverteur’s 1801 constitution is organized into 13 sections. The text is
signed by Toussaint Louverture as of 29 Floreal, an 6; i.e. 18 May 1978. LLMC has not located a published copy of this document prior to 1801.
Attestation for the accuracy of this earlier manuscript copy is provided by Général T. Hedouville and Gauthier; respectively Agent Particulier and Secretary
Général of the French Agency for the Directoire in St. Domingue. It is apparent that Louverture openly consulted Hedouville on this draft, since a copy
of the same text, bearing the same date, can be found in the manuscript correspondence between Louverture and Général Hédouville, found in the
composite manuscript collection digitized from Univ. of Florida Library’s microfilm Saint Domingue Collection, Vol. 10.)
