pamphlet the contents of which originally appeared in the Moniteur, no. 173, Louis XVI attempts to rally the French people to his cause by listing
the many ways in which the revolutionary government has stripped him of much of his power as well as his revenue. It is dated the same day as the royal
family's attempt to flee but was ultimately stopped at Varennes, 50 km short of their destinantion, and returned to Paris. At one point (p. 6) he even
slips out of the obligatory third person and into the first person (J'en ai eu des marques trop touchantes ...). He has a scant 18 months to live.
