1955, Laws of Fiji 7v
|
|
The laws of Fiji; Containing the ordinances of Fiji and subsidiary legislation thereunder enacted on or before the 16th day of April, 1955; Together with letters patent, royal instructions, and certain orders of Her Majesty in Council relating to Fiji; Revised Edition: prep. by William Gordon Bryce, Vol. 1–7, continuous pagination, London, C.F. Roworth, GovPr, 1956. (Vols. 5-6 cover subsidiary legislation. While the word “revised” appears in the title, this is not a full revision in the normal pattern of “Compiled Laws” issued by many other jurisdictions. Instead the work presents the ruling omnibus ordinance governing a given topic as amended to date. The omnibus ordinances themselves are not arranged alphabetically by subject, but in an arbitrary and non-intuitive system, Thus use of the alphabetically organized Subject Index {Vol. 7, starting at p. lxxv} is almost always necessary. Index references are to the page numbers of the two main volumes, which are continuously paginated {V. 1, pp. 1-642; V.2, pp. 643-1383; V.3, pp. 1385-2040; V.4, pp. 2041-2802; V.5, 2803-3894; V.6, pp. 3895-4918 }. Serious scholars may appreciate being aware that later in 1955 the Government Printer in Suva issued a supplementary looseleaf volume entitled “Ordinances omitted from the Revised Edition of 1955”. LLMC has not yet managed to scan this volume, but is aware of at least one copy, held by the library of the Institute for Advanced Legal Studies in London as IALS=Res GM7.E.1.)
