Fiji, Constitutional Conference, 1965: n.a., 18p, Cmnd. 2783, London, HMSO, (1965). (The conference was held in London at Marlborough House from 26 July to 9 August, 1965. In result a new constitution was conferred on Fiji, com,ing into effect on 23 Sept. 1966. Great attention was paid to achieving representation from all population groups. This constitution provided for the first time for a majority of elected members in the Legislative Council; with the Council consisting of 4 appointed and 36 elected members. The elected members were elected from 3 communal rolls; being 9 Fijian, 9 Indian, and 7 “general” members, the latter being neither Fijian or Indian. Additionally, 9 members were elected by people of all races voting together. Finally, 3 additional members were elected by the Great Council of Chiefs.)
