Republic of Cyprus; Reports of cases decided by the Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus, n.a., Vol. 1-, 1960/61-, published by authority, Cyprus, Zavallis Press for the Government of Cyprus, 1961-.(Cyprus became independent in 1960. At that time the court system was reorganized at its summit, with the High Court which had its origins in the British Cyprus Courts of Justice Order, 1882, yielding some of its oversight to a Supreme Constitutional Court, which was given special jurisdiction in constitutional matters. Reflecting the major division in the population of the island, each high court was staffed with a Greek judge, a Turkish judge, and a neutral judge. The latter, who presided, could to be chosen from any foreign country except for Greece and Turkey. This system lasted only until early 1964, when, due to intercommunal strife, the neutral judges resigned their posts and were not replaced, leading to a paralysis of the judicial system. The problem was resolved by Law No. 33/64, which abolished the Constitutional Court and merged its functions back into the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. See LLMC Title No. 10358.)
