Extension of GA law to Cherokees, Wirt opinion, 1830
Opinion on the right of the state of Georgia to extend her laws over the Cherokee Nation by William Wirt, Esq., 29 p., Baltimore, F. Lucas, Jr.,
1830. ( The author was selected in 1830 to defend Cherokee rights before the U.S. Supreme Court in Cherokee Nation v. Georgia. He argued that the Cherokee
Nation was a "foreign nation" and therefore not subject to Georgia's jurisdiction. This work reinforces his argument that the territory of the
Cherokees is not within the jurisdiction of the State of Georgia, but within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation. It was reprinted from a
copy forwarded from the press of the Cherokee Phoenix, Echota.)
