LLMC welcomes Patrick Butler as only its 3rd Executive Director in 47 years! Patrick will be based in the Bloomington, Minnesota office beginning Monday, January 15.  He brings significant experience to this position, most recently as a Minnesota attorney with Larkin Hoffman advising nonprofits and working closely with Boards of Directors. Before moving into private practice, Patrick was a librarian for nearly twenty years in both a law firm and in academia, primarily in management, technical services, and electronic resources roles.

Patrick brought leadership, innovation, and creativity to his previous role as Director of Research for the law firm by introducing new services, committing to extensive marketing, and reducing expenses. His responsibilities for managing all aspects of the operation and direction of the library included collection development and management, personnel management, implementation of new technologies, budget management, and developing short and long-term objectives that aligned with the firm’s overall strategic plan.

At the University of Connecticut School of Law, Patrick created award-winning marketing materials and initiated strategies that doubled attendance at law school instruction sessions. He also worked closely with legal publishers and negotiated contracts, leveraging his years of experience as a technical services librarian and electronic resources librarian at Yale University.

Patrick served in leadership positions on numerous committees including AALL’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, chairing AALL’s Leadership Development Committee, and was elected to many regional and national executive board member positions.

As a law librarian, Patrick used LLMC Digital to locate relevant texts for faculty and student research. He now looks forward to this opportunity to support the vital mission of legal preservation and access and build on the nearly 50 years of success of LLMC.
